THE FARM
Finca Tropical lives up to its name: the finca consists of over one hectare with tropical and subtropical plants. Enough to generate a full income.
The approximately 450 avocado trees cover the largest surface of the finca. In addition, there is a greenhouse of a few thousand square meters with a passion fruit plantation, or as they say in Spanish, maracuyá. Finally, there is a smaller greenhouse with citrus caviar.
There is water in abundance. The irrigation and fertilization installation is completely renovated and automated in 2023. The house is equipped with air conditioning and a dishwasher, which makes it a comfortable place to live!
COSTA TROPICAL
Hidden in the hills of the coastal village of Salobreña at the Costa Tropical, lies Finca Tropical. With more than 325 days of sunshine annually, the Costa Tropical is a perfect place to cultivate all kind of tropical and subtropical fruits.
In the hills overlooking Salobreña, at the end of a dead end road, lies Finca Tropical at 250 metres above sea level.
The slopes of the landscape create a feeling of intimacy at Finca Tropical. There are no houses in the vicinity and because there are no main roads in the area, absolute peace and quietness is a fact.
AVOCADO
Finca Tropical's avocado plantation consists of about 450 trees, part of which have just started their productive life. This ensures continuity of harvest for the coming years. All avocado trees are of the Hass type, the most demanded and best paid type in the market.
Avocado trees require little care and have very few diseases and pests. Sufficient water and nutrition is important, for this purpose there is an automated irrigation and fertilization installation.
PASSIONFRUIT
Passion fruit is the tropical taste sensation; sweet and slightly sour.
Finca Tropical's passion fruit plantation consists of approximately 240 plants. These plants grow in a dedicated greenhouse, which ensures high-quality fruit and an early harvest. Finca Tropical was the first in the region and is still one of the few to grow passion fruit in a greenhouse.
Just like avocado trees, passion fruit plants have very few diseases and pests.
CITRUS CAVIAR
In a separate greenhouse there are approximately 60 citrus caviar plants.
Citrus caviar is a new, sensational citrus variant on the market. The flesh consists of pearls - hence the name "caviar" - and is therefore the vegetable variation on caviar of animal origin. Citrus caviar is mainly used as a garnish for fish dishes and for cocktails and gin-tonics.
WATER
The finca's irrigation and fertilization system can be found in a detached outbuilding fully equipped for this purpose. The installation is modern and fully equipped. Watering is fully automated by means of a computer, with each crop receiving the correct amount of water at the desired times.Although it rains just occasionally, because of its exceptional location in one of the best irrigation areas of Andalusia there is no lack of water at all at Finca Tropical! This is unique! In this climate, a farm with water in abundance is quite exceptional.
HOUSE
The house is set in a quiet location and a place to really relax and enjoy all the birds. The house has a cozy living room with kitchen (including dishwasher), bathroom and 2 bedrooms. There is air conditioning (cooling and heating) in both the living room and the bedroom.
The mobile network coverage on the finca is very good, so working from home or video conferencing is no problem at all.
Electricity
Finca Tropical is powered by its own generated energy through solar panels. The system is of top quality (Victron) and has more than enough solar panels to meet the daily energy needs (including dishwasher, washing machine & air conditioners). There is also a huge (Lithium) battery that can supply the Finca with electricity for a few days (on the few days when the sky is not brilliantly blue).
This makes Finca Tropical completely independent (Off-Grid), there is no connection to the public grid, and therefore no monthly energy bill!
